Mike Kelly is a Partner in the Commercial Real Estate team specialising in Landlord and Tenant law, advising both landlords and tenants on all aspects of commercial leasehold property. He also handles property acquisition and disposal work, including joint venture agreements, for developer clients.
Mike was born and brought up in Luton and educated at Luton schools. He read law at University College London, graduating with a 2(1) degree in 1976, and then did Solicitors Part 2 exams at Lancaster Gate, before articles at Stanley Tees in Bishops Stortford, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1979. After five years’ PQE at Stanley Tees he joined Taylor Walker, based at the Harpenden office, in 1984. He became a salaried Partner later that year and equity Partner in 1987. He is now the firm’s Finance Partner, and a member of the Management Board, and is responsible for managing the firm’s relationships with its accountants and bankers, as well as being in overall control of the firm’s accounting and credit control functions.
Mike is well-regarded as a specialist real estate lawyer and frequently presents seminars and lectures locally on Landlord and Tenant law. The 2014 edition of Chambers UK quotes his knowledge on this area as “second to none”. He prides himself on understanding clients’ business requirements and what really matters to them, and always endeavours to handle clients’ work quickly and efficiently.
