The First Heterosexual Civil Partnership
The supreme Court unanimously ruled in favour of a couple who fought for the right to have a Civil Partnership instead of getting married in order to have the same rights in relation to inheritance, tax and pensions. The couple has been together since 2010 and have two children and wanted a Civil Partnership, something only previously afforded to same-sex couples as they did not want to explore marriage. The judgement does not automatically change the law but it is thought that pressure will be applied to see the necessary changes.
