The summer vacation scheme gave me a great insight into life working at Taylor Walton. I could tell instantly that the Firm wanted to provide me with an opportunity to develop my legal skills as I was able to assist on live matters and was given detailed feedback on my completed work by the Partners, Solicitors and Trainees I worked alongside.
I sat in both the Employment and Private Client departments during my vacation scheme and therefore experienced the different legal aspects of various departments. During my time in Private Client I was able to join my supervising Partner in a client meeting and following the meeting I produced the first draft of the Wills, discussed the same and the importance of building a good client rapport with the supervising Partner.
The training provided throughout the vacation scheme did not solely focus on legal skills but also the fundamental basics needed in a working environment, such as time management, communication and efficiency. I had to team up with the other vacation scheme students to prepare a topical presentation to be presented during the final week and I was set theoretical research tasks to be completed by the end of my time in each department. For example, in Employment, I had to identify issues arising out of a scenario and discuss the potential outcomes supported by relevant case law and statute.
