Will Bates

I was attracted to apply to Taylor Walton; I knew the firm had a very good reputation. The size and range of work that the firm specialises in really appealed to me and I saw the summer placement as a great way to find out more about the firm, as well as a career as a solicitor.

During the course of the summer placement, I was supervised by Partners in two different departments and they constantly involved me in the work they were doing. By sitting in with a fee earner and attending meetings with them I was able to listen and observe interactions with clients.  The summer placement at Taylor Walton was undoubtedly the most insightful work experience placement I had into what daily life as a solicitor is really about. The placement was well run and really enjoyable.

The firm’s approach to recruitment and the running of the summer placement reflects the friendly and professional culture I have experienced as a trainee. The firm has a fantastic reputation for training and retention, so I always felt that the recruitment process was as much about deciding if I would fit in and enjoy being here as much as it was an assessment of my academic potential.

I am really enjoying the work I have been doing so far in Corporate & Commercial and, being the only trainee in the department, I have found it to be the perfect size to gain experience on a wide range of matters. I have performed tasks relating to mergers and demergers, various guarantees, bankruptcy and insolvency. The work has been really challenging but I have never felt like I haven’t been able to ask questions when needed.
