Pensions on divorce – inequality between men and women and some eye opening statistics

Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research (MICRA), has recently published a report in respect to pension sharing on divorce.

The report concludes that pension sharing on divorce could have a substantial impact on women’s finances on retirement.

One of the most shocking statistics shows that for those aged between 65-69, median pension wealth for men is just over £212,000 compared to just £35,000 for women.

The report also highlights that divorced women’s pensions are much lower in comparison to divorced men with women only having a fraction of pension wealth in comparison to men.

These statistics alone highlight the importance of obtaining legal advice and going through the process of financial disclosure when married couples separate and divorce.
