Commercial Property
About
I am a partner in our Commercial Property Department, based in Luton. I enjoy working on all aspects of commercial property, including landlord and tenant, secured lending and land development.
One of my particular areas of specialism is in acting for those in the retail sector. I have specialist knowledge of the issues facing those in retail which enables me to negotiate and tailor documentation to my client’s needs.
I trained with a small firm of London-based solicitors where I gained invaluable experience of commercial and residential property transactions. Seeking a new challenge I joined the Commercial Property department of Taylor Walton on qualification as a solicitor in 1999. Then aged 30, I became the Firm’s youngest partner in 2005.
Interests
I am a keen netball player and also a qualified umpire and coach. I enjoy spending time in France and take a French conversation class. My other interests include skiing, hill walking and fine wine.
Experience
- Acting for a major retailer in relation to the surrender of one unit in a shopping centre and taking a lease of a different unit. The new lease had to allow the landlord flexibility to re-develop the centre but it was Alison’s job to ensure that the re-development provisions were acceptable to the retailer and protected their position
- An £8.5m disposal of land to a major national housebuilder. This was a very complex conditional contract involving an adjoining landowner as joint venture partner. The terms of the contract allowed for phased completion together with overage. Alison’s commercial experience proved to be invaluable in ensuring that a mutually acceptable contract was eventually agreed
- Acting for a landlord in relation to the re-gearing of its tenant’s City office premises including working around the tenant to carry out a £1.5m redevelopment of the building.
